11th January 1951 View looking north east along east side of Park Square. Number 9, Scottish Life Assurance Co. Ltd. and J. Levi and Co. Ltd. solicitors in the foreground. Town Hall visible through trees. In the centre of the image with the triangular roof line is No 8. Park Square, home to Dr Edith Pechey the first women to practice medicine and Leeds and the 3rd woman to become a doctor in the UK. A campaigner for women's rights Pechey spent over 20 years in India a senior doctor at a women's hospital and was involved with a range of social causes. In 19-6 Pechey represented Leeds Suffragists at an International Women's Suffrage Alliance Congress in Copenhagen.
