My grandpa died 2yrs ago, in his possessions was a block of wood that was said to have come from the tree when it came down in 1948. He was a member of the committee that decided the fate of the tree. I would like to know more about the Committee; and whether any of the other remaining 11 pieces of "The Oak" left??

My grandfather, George Clough, drove a lorry for Leeds City Council and he was part of the team which removed the original oak when it collapsed. The tree was cut up for souvenirs, I believe, and I have a small offcut piece given to me by my grandfather.
