I was born in 1947 at 2 Bridle Path Cottages, which you accessed via the pathway near the stone wall shown at the far end of the photo. My grandfather was the head porter at Seacroft Hospital until his death in 1948 and my grandparents lived there for many years. My family lived at Bridle Path Cottages until 1953 and my grandmother continued to live for a few years after that. I am sure that the houses shown in the foreground are on York Road

The 'white house' estate as we called it was being constructed formally in Brick but the contractors ran out of money hence the white concrete construction of these houses.

In order to see Seacroft Hospital Clock at this angle the houses would have to be on York Road opposite the Melbourne Hotel

My family, Chadwicks, moved into 600 York road in 1948,this is the house on the extreme right of the photo(under the hospital clock tower). This location is where the Bridle path converged with the York Road.Being an end house the garden was large and at there was a notice Board erected at the end which the Church had used for advertsing purposes. Our next door neighbours were Mr&Mrs McCardle and son Brian. In the next pair of semi's lived the Scully? family and then the Liddle's. I was friendly with Wendy Liddle, she had a younger brother Martin and older sister Brenda. This house seemed large but,oh my,how cold it was in winter. The window frames were metal and although we had a seperate upstairs bathroom it was unheated, so Mum used to bath us in a tin bath,in front of the fire in the living room. Opposite this house was a parade of shops which was divided by the entrance to the Oval. The Tram and Bus service had a stop just outside our door, very convenient for getting into Leeds. In 1952/3 we moved from this house to No 4 Farm Road Crossgates. We all noticed a big difference in the temperature within the house given that it was brick built.

My sister Julie has made the earlier comments, I also recall that in the right hand dwelling of the two nearest houses (612)lived the Hill family I was a school mate of their son Brian and in the next house to the right(610) lived the Wardle family their son Dennis also a school mate this was circa 1949-52. While I write this comment for the archive I am looking at a photograph of our family sat on the front step of the house of which is the farest doorway to be seen

Yes everybody is correct the houses are on York Road facing the parade of shops,we knew the houses as waller houses (which were deemed to be jerry built)but they did survive for manny years. I was interested to read Juli Taylors comments, as I lived on Farm Road, at the other end, but I did attend Crossgates School which was about 50yars from No4 where she lived, we moved from Farm Road in 1949, But my best friend lived in the Bridle Path for manny years after that, his name Jack Sharp my friend from school days that is over 65 years, and we still meet up 2 or 3 times a year did you know Jack ? he has a younger sister called Winny. Both now live in Morley.
