John Smeaton's most famous work was the building of the third Eddystone lighthouse off Plymouth. In St, Mary's church at Whitkirk there is a lighthouse memorial to him put there by his daughters.

The house was demolished in the late 30's to make way for housing on Detroit Drive (offered for sale at about £500 in 1939) and bungalows on Austhorpe Lane. The farm was on the other side of Austhorpe Lane. The Lodge is still there on Selby Road.

Correction to my previous comment. The building on Selby Road is, of course, the gatehouse to Austhorpe Lodge.
