Description:
c1967. View of the interior of the Empire Arcade looking down towards Cross Arcade. Shops visible include Henry Fields and Rediffusion. A man and a woman walk down to the Cross Arcade exit. The Empire Arcade was formerly the site of the Empire Theatre, demolished in 1962. It has since been redeveloped to house the Harvey Nichols store.

I REMEMBER THIS ARCADE BEING OPENED IN 1964. WE WERE ASKED TO BE " EXTRAS " BY THE LOCAL PAPER. WE WERE TOLD TO WALK BACK AND FORTH WHILE THEY TOOK PHOTOS. WE WERE PAID IN VOUCHERS AND I SPENT MINE ON BEATLES SINGLES!
