Comment:
These houses must have been brand new when the photograph was taken. Time hasn't been kind to them. Such houses were also built around the Red Halls and on Queenswood Drive, which are in much better condition. Nearly all of these are boarded up, many have holes in the external walls so that you can see into the inside of the house, the constuction methods of these houses were poor and the way that many of them were looked after was tragic.

I remember these houses being built on south parkway. They were the replacement for the prefab bungalows that were put up to rehouse families after the war. The prefabs were only supposed to be tempory and there was alot of resistance to them being demolished because people liked living in them. They would have been alot more cosy than the old slums that were around Leeds during the war.The old prefab had alot of asbestos in them .No wonder they were so warm however those dangers were not known to us then. It,s such a pity that the ones in the picture have been allowed to be vandalised . It,s not houses and areas that are the cause of crime .It,s the people and their scruffy kids. When are these dogooders and social engineers going to realise that.? This was once a nice area. I drove by last year. The writing is on the wall in more sense than one.
