Black & White imageSeptember 1928. View shows the prize winning window displays of Finglands Furnishing, situated at the junction of King Charles Street and Guildford Street. As part of Civic Week celebrations shops and street were decorated. The programme of events for the week also included Municipal Tours around the suburbs to show new developments in housing, roads and public works and open days at factories around the city including J.Barran and Sons Ltd., Appleyard and Montague Burton.

Demolition of Schofields store (City Centre)
Colour imagec1987. Image shows demolition in progress on the old Schofields store. The site is bordered by the Headrow, Lands Lane, King Charles Street and King Charles Croft. The dated 1962 building was to be replaced by a smaller store and the Schofields Centre, a retail development housing a variety of shops and a Food Court. This view looks down onto Lands Lane, background, right. In the background, left, is Lewis's Department store, built in the 1930s. Behind the orange crane is King Charles Croft. The new Schofields opened in 1990.

There is a turn-in to King Charles Street before number 32/34, Finglands houses. A group of men stand on the road looking at the camera. On the south side is Staines and Son grocers, Rudge & Whitworth cycles and motors and Greenwoods motors. The Town Hall and Pitmans school can be seen in the distance.
