Black & White image28th January 1949 Looking west along this busy commercial street you see the factories, workshops and showrooms of several manufacturers and wholesale merchants. They include, on the left at the top, T.B. Morley elecrical and sanitary showrooms. J.P. McDougall's decorators merchants and the paper factory of S. Grant. At near right number 49 is the premises of Hector Gollan Wholesale jewellers. In the foreground there are more commercial premises. On both sides of the street there are cars and on the left there is a lorry parked. Electric streetlamps line the right pavement.

Black & White image28th January 1949 Looking down Aire street from the junction with Thirsk Row. On the right is the factory of S. Grant paper merchant. In the same block are J.P. McDougall decorator's merchants and T.B. Morley plumbers merchants. This is a busy commercial street containing many other businesses. On both sides of the street are various vehicles parked including cars and vans. The fourth vehicle from the right is an early pick-up truck. On the pavement are four electric street lamps.

Albert Ward, Grocer, Commercial Street (Rothwell)
Black & White image1926. View shows Albert Ward, and daughter Ethel, aged about 16, on the steps of his grocers and general merchants shop, at the junction of Commercial Street and Marsh Street. Advertisements can be seen for tea, mustard, polish, and tobacco and various items of hardware are hung outside. The building was demolished after the Second World War as part of the widening of the entrance to Marsh Street.
