Moor Allerton Library opened on the 5th October 1982 and has a largely open plan layout. The library suffered a fire in 1988 but retained much the same layout when refurbished.

The Picture Books are situated to the right in 'kinder boxes' to allow easy access for children. Circular plastic chairs surround movable kinder boxes in the centre with a large beanbag visible in the foreground. A book display on the right contains the titles 'Long Neck and Thunder Foot' by Helen Piers and 'On Friday Somthing Happened' by John Prater. This area is now used as the Reference Section.
