Black & White imageUndated. View of the newly built Barley Hill Road Council School which opened in February 1907 in Barley Hill Road (formerly Occupation Lane.) Before it opened children attended Garforth Provided School held in the Primitive Methodist Chapel in Main Street. This is taken from the site of what was to become the recreation ground at the opposite side of Barleyhill Road. It would eventually be laid out with a bowling green, putting green, tennis court and childrens' playground.

View of Barley Hill Road Council School, until recently, 2007/2008, located in Barley Hill Road, It dates from 1907 and replaced the Garforth Provided School, held in the Primitive Methodist Chapel in Main Street. A new P.F.I. (private finance initiative) school has been built called Strawberry Fields Primary School to replace this infant school and West Garforth Junior School. Barley Hill Road Council School is now demolished.

Black & White imagec1917. Image shows all the pupils of Barley Hill Road Council School as they pose for a group photograph c1917. The are actually lined up across Barley Hill Road with the school to the right. At this time the school, built in 1907, was about 10 years old. The girls and boys were segregated - the boys can be seen hanging over the fence, in the background. A new PFI school has been built recently in Lidgett Lane which replaces Barley Hill Road Infant School and West Garforth Junior School. Barley Hill Road School was demolished in the summer of 2007.
