In the background part of Country Baskets is visible, a large cash and carry outlet and importers of artificial flowers, home decor and giftware. The business is housed in the former Ardsley Mills, a worsted spinners run by Thomas Ambler & Sons and which was a main employer of the area. Many women went from school to work in the mill.

Colour imageUndated. Image shows Bradford Road Tingley Co-op, the white building in the centre, built in the 1940s. On the right the former Mill of Thomas Ambler & Sons can be seen. In its heyday it was one of the largest employers in the area and spun worsted. Over the last few years it has been occupied by Country Baskets, a warehouse supplying the florist trade.

The mills were taken over by Country Baskets a few years ago. The premises, seen here, are constructed in red brick and the two gable ends bear a decorative crest incorporating the initials of the firm of Thomas Amblers.

Colour image2005. View from the car park of Country Baskets, a large cash & carry outlet and importers of artificial flowers, home decor and giftware. The business is in the former premises of Thomas Ambler & Sons in Bradford Road, part of Ardsley Mills. Ambler's were worsted spinners founded in Bradford in 1858. The Mill was built here because of the close proximity to a coal supply and a good labour force of women living in the area.
