The River Aire runs through the centre of this view from the bottom to top edges. In the bottom left corner, Kirkgate and Marsh Lane are visible with East Street running towards the top of the view and Crown Point Road running to the right, spanning the River via the Crown Point Bridge. Above the bridge is the Leeds Dam and the Aire and Calder Navigation. To the left the view looks across the Bank area towards Cross Green and Richmond Hill. A large recreation ground on Bow Street is also visible. Hunslet Lane and Hunslet Road can be seen towards the right where the view looks across the Clarence Dock area towards Holbeck. View of the Arthur Aarons Statue in Eastgate. Arthur Aarons V.C. stands, as a young World Ward II airman, at the base of a tree climbed by children. The child at the top releases the dove of peace. In the background left, is the West Yorkshire Playhouse and B.B.C. studios in St. Peter's Square. The red brick building in the centre background is Munro House in Duke Street. The buildings under construction in the background are part of a mixed use development called Gateway. It is on the former site of Howarth Timber between Crown Point Road, Marsh Lane and East Street. The architects, Carey Jones, have designed over 640 studio, 1 bedroomed and two bedroomed apartments, a 218 bed hotel, office and commerical space. View shows part of the Carlsberg-Tetley Brewery, seen from Crown Point Road, taken in the summer of 2010. The reception area and offices are behind the trees on the left. The brewery was established in 1822 and for many years enjoyed great success as Joshua Tetley and Son. In the 1990s it became part of Danish brewing giant Carlsberg who were to close this site down on 17th June 2011 and transfer production of Tetley's famous bitter to their other sites.
