Black & White image16th April 1943. Circular static water supply tank in Cumberland Road. Behind is clear view of Devonshire Hall, hall of residence for the University of Leeds, built in 1928 in the 17th century 'Scottish Baronial' style.

Black & White imageUndated, View of Devonshire Hall, the first purpose built Hall of Residence for the students of Leeds University. The lease had expired on the previous Devonshire Hall, the old Wesleyan College. A site was found in Cumberland Road which included the Regent Court Residential Hotel and grounds for £20,000 in 1927. Local architects, J.C. Procter and F.L. Charlton designed the new hall in the grounds and it had features in common with a Tudor monastic building. 140 students and a warden transferred here in 1930. Nowadays, Devonshire Hall accommodates around 320 students in single and shared rooms and cluster flats.

Black & White imageUndated, Architect's drawing of Devonshire Hall, the first purpose built Hall of Residence, designed by Leeds architects John C. Procter and F.L. Charlton in the late 1920s. It has a central courtyard and a clock tower and was built to accomodate 280 students. Devonshire Hall is named after the second Chancellor of the University, the 9th Duke of Devonshire who held the position from 1909 to 1938. It is situated in Cumberland Road.
