Black & White image1969. View north over the railway lines, Marsh Lane and New York Road to Quarry Hill, Mabgate and beyond. The woman with the pram accompanied by a young girl is standing on high ground near Cross Catherine Street at the junctions with East Field Street and Wesley Place. The long building behind the group is addressed as number 1 Cross Catherine Street. There is a row of individual garages at the right edge which are parallel with the railway lines not far from the Marsh Lane Tunnel beneath Upper Accommodation Road. The chimney belongs to a works in East Field Street. Just behind the chimney the footbridge crossing the railway lines to Shannon Street is visible. Just right of the centre the large building is St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church located in Burmantofts Street at the junction with New York Road. The church with the tower, seen towards the left, is St. Mary's Church of England in St. Mary's Street, Mabgate. In front of the church the large block is part of Quarry Hill Flats. High rise flats loom in the background. These are called Cromwell Heights, located in Thealby Close, Thealby Lawn and Thealby Place, off Cromwell Street.
