Black & White image2nd April 1936. This view of Broomhill shows, behind the stone wall a line of mature trees and two barely seen houses. The road has tram lines, several telegraph poles and gas streetlamps. In the distance there is a horse and cart and a steamroller.

The old stone property, left, is Waterloo House and Brook House is glimpsed through the trees, right of centre. The photo was taken prior to the building of Harrogate Road Bridge, which would be sited to the left from roughly where the gas lamp is. The photographer would have been standing in front of the George and Dragon beside which was the old stone bridge which had previously carried the Bradford/Harrogate traffic.

Chained Bull Hotel, Harrogate Road (Moortown)
Black & White image18th February 1925. View shows a close up of the entrance to the Chained Bull Hotel on Harrogate Road. John Griffiths is named as the licensee and Ind Coope & Co. Ltd are the proprietors. A new Chained Bull hotel was in the process of being built at the time, just behind this one, leaving this building dating from the 18th century to close and subsequently be demolished. The new public house, later known as The Bull, would itself be demolished in 2008.

Stainbeck Lane runs up to join this at Stainbeck Corner, with the Methodist Church to the left of the junction and the Police Station and Library to the right. Town Street leads off in between. Further back are terraced houses on the Hawthorns then Norfolk Gardens and Allerton Park above to the right. On the left, Allerton House is towards the bottom set in large tree-covered grounds. More terraced housing is above, on Victoria Street and Woodland View, then a recreation ground including tennis courts with Pasture Lane to the right and Northbrook Street on the far left.
