Black & White image24th February 1940. Image shows the junction of Woodland Lane and Hawthorn Mount, looking north. The buildings to the left with the spiral fire escape are part of Hawthorn House. The series of terraced streets named 'The Hawthorns' were built on the former grounds of Hawthorn House. The house with decorative gable end is still standing, although the surrounding houses have mostly gone. Regent Street is to the right. The gas lamp has war-time black-out markings.
