In the foreground the gable end belongs to the Victoria, a Tetley's public house at number 8 Roundhay Road at the junction with Manor Street. (Roundhay Road is in the bottom left-hand corner). At the right edge, with decorative gables is the former Kepler Council School, later to become Roseville County Secondary School and fronting Gledhow Road. On the horizon, in the centre, Kershaw Works is visible at number 200 Harehills Lane. This was the Rank Optics Factory, specialising in Fibre Optic Technology. At the time of this image the factory had closed down with the department of Fibre Optics relocating to Brentwood in Essex. The area is densely packed with red brick terraced streets.

Moving back, the yard office of F. A. Pearson and Son Ltd, plumbing contractors and heating and ventilating engineers, their main office was 34 Meanwood Road. Number 19a Manor Street is to the right, Morris Brostoff and Sons, bristle manufacturers.
