Brunswick Terrace/ Wade Passage showing excavation site (City Centre) (2 comments)
Black & White imagecirca 1965. This view shows site excavations for the new building as part of the Merrion Centre development scheme by Town Centre Securities Ltd., a successful Leeds based property company led by Arnold Ziff. Brunswick Terrace is in the background and at number 32, left of centre, is R.S. Whitworth, a manufacturer of uniforms. Properties in Brunswick Terrace were demolished to make way for Leeds Polytechnic, now the Leeds Met University. The excavation is the site of the Podium Building housing Wetherspoon Free House and the Grosvenor Casino in Merrion Way, and Tower House is off camera to the right. In the 1970s the building on this site was the venue for the night club 'Cinderella, Rockafella's'. Wade Passage leads off into the top left-hand corner.
