Morley Town Hall, Morley Local History Society annual dinner (Morley)
Colour imageMarch 1967. This photograph was taken at the first annual dinner of the Morley Local History Society, a tradition which was expected to be permanent but which gave up after about 15 years due to rising charges. Here the President of Morley Local History Society is sitting on the Watson Scatcherd Chair of Justice, which was kept on a plinth in the corridor between the Mayor's Rooms and the Council Chamber in Morley Town Hall. The President was Mr. George W. Atkinson, later awarded the MBE. Next to him on the left are the Mayor of Morley, Alderman Stanley Trowsdale, the Mayoress, Mrs. Marjorie Trowsdale and the Yearbook Editor Dr. J. McH. Steven. To the right of the President are Mrs. Anning, wife of the Speaker Dr. Anning, a specialist dermatologist from Leeds General Infirmary who had just written a comprehensive history of the hospital, Dr. Lodge (hidden), a visitor from Wetherby and Mr. Peter Dobson, the Secretary of Morley Local History Society during its first year. The picture in the background shows a pastoral cattle scene and had probably some connection with the Scatcherd Family. Photograph from the David Atkinson Archive.
