Black & White image1983. Aerial view over Chapeltown and Harehills from Roseville Road, part of which is seen in the bottom left-hand corner. Roseville Works is visible at the bottom edge. The camera looks across an area densely populated with red brick streets. On the right, the large brick building with decorative gables is the former Kepler Council School which was later known as Roseville County Secondary School. It fronts Gledhow Road. Another school is visible towards the top left. It has two towers with pointed roofs and dutch-style gables. This is the former Gipton Board School, built in 1897, and fronting Harehills Road between Conway Street and Conway Mount. It became Harehills County Secondary School and the Harehills Middle School. The line of Harehills Lane runs horizontally along the top edge and Kershaw Works can be seen at number 200. This was the Rank Optics factory but at the time of this image it had been vacated and was about to be purchased by Leeds City Council.
