The seven arches aquaduct carried water from the Eccup Reservoir (built 1837) to the city centre. Underground pipes and tunnels carried the water for most of the 6 mile route, however at Adel it must cross the Adel Beck, for this reason the aquaduct was built. After 24 years the aquaduct became redundant when it could no longer cope with the City's demand for water. Though not in use the aquaduct still stands, built of local grit stone with each arch spanning 34 feet.

Image shows a view of the Seven Arches Aquaduct in Adel Woods as it spans Adel Beck. It was taken with a Kodak Brownie camera in 1948. The aquaduct dates from 1841/42 and was built to carry water from Eccup Reservoir to Leeds City Centre. In 1998 the listed structure was successfully stablilised with strained cables at a cost of £160,000, as it was leaning and in danger of collapse.
