Sherburn Road, looking towards high-rise flats (Swarcliffe)
Colour image2001. View looking down Sherburn Road showing the junction with Sledmere Croft on the left. The fire station building is at the bottom of the hill, by the junction with Stanks Drive which runs across from left to right. Beyond this a series of high-rise flats dominate the background. These are (from left) Langbar Towers (top just visible), Langbar Grange, Ash Tree Grange, Pennwell Croft, Ash Tree Court, Brayton Grange and Farndale Court. These were all to be demolished at periods within the next 5-6 years, leaving only Sherburn Court (off the picture to the right) still standing. Image courtesy of Leslie Cole.

Sherburn Road, looking towards high-rise flats (Swarcliffe)
Colour image2001. This view looking down Sherburn Road towards Stanks Drive show how the landscape of the Swarcliffe housing estate was previously dominated by a number of blocks of high-rise flats. Six are in view here, namely (from left), Langbar Grange, Ash Tree Grange, Penniwell Croft, Ash Tree Court, Brayton Grange and Farndale Court. All these were to be demolished over the next few years as part of a major regeneration of the area. Houses in the foreground remain, where the junction with Sledmere Croft is on the left.
