Footbridge over York Road Flyover, Inner Ring Road (Quarry Hill) (2 comments)
Colour imagec1991/2. A workman on an access platform is painting the footbridge crossing the York Road flyover at Quarry Hill. It is adjacent to Quarry House which at the time was in the process of being built. The footbridge descends to St. Mary's Street at the other side, right. The red brick wall on the right is the boundary of St. Peter's Church of England Primary School, formerly St. Charles Roman Catholic School dating from 1873. St. Peter's School moved to new premises in September 1993. Below the footbridge is the eastbound York Road flyover which opened 4th February 1973.

Mabgate and Burmantofts, aerial view (Mabgate)
Black & White imageUndated. Aerial view of the Mabgate (left) and Burmantofts (right) areas of the city. In the centre the 3 tower blocks of Cromwell Heights look to be recently built as the road layout around is yet to be completed. Cromwell Street is to the right of these with Green Road (now Lincoln Green Road) running from left to right across the centre and Cherry Row leading up to the top. Further blocks of flats appear to be under construction in the background, right; these are probably Spalding Towers and Grantham Towers, with Boston Towers yet to be built to the left of them. St. Mary's Church is in the foreground with St. Mary's Street in front and St. Charles R.C. School on the bottom left. At the top left is the junction of Sheepscar Street South, Cross Stamford Street and Regent Street.

St. Mary's Church and School. (Mabgate) (4 comments)
Black & White imageC1970s. View of St. Mary's Church and school with St. Mary's Street running between the two buildings. A parliamentary grant of £12,520 was awarded under the Million Act for the building of this Church in 1823. It appears to be in a semi-derelict state with some broken windows. It was scheduled for demolition in 1976 and the west tower was demolished in 1979. Photograph courtesy of Terry Cryer.
