April 1904. Row of terraced houses in Ark Street, part of the East Street improvement area, with woman and baby in doorway of one of the houses. The windows have wooden shutters. Iron covering of coal cellar is clearly visible to left of picture. These two houses were demolished for road improvements.

6th February 1953. This view looking north west along the north east side of Aston Street shows two rows of brick terrace houses. They have slate roofs and ornate chimney pots. The roads are unmettled and un-graded.
