View of Chapeltown Road showing a large police poster on the side of a building, asking for help to find the Yorkshire Ripper. Peter Sutcliffe was jailed for life in 1981 for the murder of 13 women between 1975 and 1980, several of them in Leeds. The handwriting and voice referred to here ('Look at his handwriting. Listen to his voice.'), which led the police to search for a man with a Wearside accent, were later found to be a hoax. In 2005, 25 years after the last attack, a Wearside man, John Humble, was convicted and sentenced to 8 years for the sending of the hoax letters and tape.
