Black & White image31st May 1939. This view is taken from the roundabout at the junction with the Ring Road. Looking uphill, on the left is St. Johns the Evangelist Church grounds, with the Lychgate clearly seen. Stone walls run into the distance with mature trees behind them. A line of gas streetlamps run along the pavement. Across the central reservation a wooden topped stone wall obscures a large huose.

Black & White image1908. View shows the Lychgate at the main( South East ) entrance to the Church yard, made of wood and stone it was designed by Messrs, Perkin and Bulmer and was dedicated on 26th March 1889 by Dr.J.J.Pulleine, Bishop Suffragan of Penrith( later Richmond ).

This church was founded by Misses Mary and Elizabeth Beckett of Meanwood Park with the foundation stone laid on 20th May 1848 by their nephew William Beckett Denison. It was consecrated on 6th October 1849.
