Black & White image24th April 1951. Looking west along Boar Lane towards the city centre we see a busy and thriving shopping area. Both sides of Boar Lane are filled with people and business premises. The Griffin hotel and Jacomellis restuarant opposite are clearly seen. The road is busy with vehicles including tramcars, buses, cars and lorries. A British Road Services truck is at the front.

Farr showing the wreckage of Tramcar 191 after it lost control on Churwell Hill, close to the old Town Hall and crashed near Ingle's leatherworks on 12th May 1923. The crash occurred when the tramcar was derailed and hit a wall before overturning. The impact separated the top deck from the lower deck and seven people were killed, with many others sustaining injuries. Two of the men lost their lives in a brave attempt to stop the tramcar, which was conveying passengers who workeed at W.L. Ingle Ltd., leatherworks. Image from the David Atkinson Archive.

Morley Bottoms, tram number 237 (Morley) (1 comment)
Black & White image1911. Image shows the first tram to arrive in Morley as it passes through Morley Bottoms on the way back into Leeds. Leeds Corporation purchased 10 of these Dick Kerr tramcars to operate the new Leeds - Morley route. Crowds have gathered to watch the historic event. Information from local historian David Atkinson.
