Cemetery Lane, the funeral procession of Doctor James A. Hargreaves (Wetherby)
Black & White image1939 The funeral procession of Doctor James A. Hargreaves proceeding with dignity down 'Cemetery Lane' marked on maps as Hallfield Lane, en route to Wetherby Cemetery. Members of the Police Service, and possibly Fire Service, escort the hearse and mourners. Doctor Hargreaves served the town for many years as a well respected G.P. residing at number 7 Market Place. As Medical Officer of Health for over forty years on Wetherby Rural District Council he was very much involved with issues of public health. In the early days his persistent concern over the quality of the town's dubious water supply led to a clean piped water installation in 1900.
