He is reaching for his wallet as he is about to make a purchase from the Arts and Craft Stall. At the time he was on his way to his surgery but dropped in to support the Fayre. The fund raising event collected £70 with over a dozen stalls, games, a treasure hunt, raffles and refreshments. Denis Healey remarked that the Fayre was a fine example of community spirit.

The centre is located in Foundry Mill Street and Denis Healey had dropped in on his way to his surgery. The Fayre raised funds of £70.00 and was a day of fun activities including Pick-a-Stick, Hook-a-Duck, a Treasure Hunt, raffles, stalls and refreshments.

It shows Denis Healey M.P. crowning Ann Marie Duffy the Queen of Gipton Gala watched by local people in fancy dress costumes. Denis Healey went down on bended knee to present the Queen with a Silver cup. Her attendants, Princess Katie Manning and Prince Shane Bosomworth were also presented with a gift. The Gala was held in the field behind Coldcotes School and there was a procession with floats decorated by local organisations, other attractions included stalls, refreshments and entertainment.

South Gipton Community Centre opened by Dennis Healey (Gipton)
Black & White image4th February 1984. In this image the Rt. Hon. Denis Healey M.P. is taking a shot on the brand new pool table at South Gipton Community Centre. He was there to open the new centre, which was in the former nursery unit of Wykebeck Primary School located in Coldcotes Grove. Denis Healey praised the local community who had raised £5,000 towards the cost of the centre. Pictured are, from left to right; Suzi Armitage, Margaret Clegg, Dennis Healey, Tony Ratchford, Fred Harris, Pat Walton, Mavis and Harry Emerson, Arthur Westerman, Annie Ripley and Peter Robinson.
