| Church Street, floods (Rothwell) |
 | May 1932. On Sunday 22nd May 1932, Rothwell Beck (River Dolphin) rose to overflowing and flooded the adjoining properties to the depth of several feet. Inhabitants were forced to take refuge in upstairs rooms and had to be rescued by Stanley Fire Brigade. All food in houses was destroyed and 48 displaced occupants were temporarily housed in the council chamber and provided with meals.The
Council resolved that 6 houses owned by Rothwell Council nos. 16 to 26 Church Street, be not re-let. View shows water level up to lower window sill of building which is Shaw Ditch (on left).
