Prior to that he had worked at the Empire Theatre until its closure i 1961. He was known for his smart attire and always, as seen here, wore a rose in his button-hole. View of the Romanesque style frontage of the Grand Theatre at 46 New Brigate, designed by George Corson and built in 1878 at a cost of £62,000. The Grand Theatre is currently undergoing a £30 million transformation, which will include restoration of the Assembly Rooms next door, and a refurbishment of the auditorium. There will be a purpose built Opera Centre to provide a permanent home for Opera North.
