Granges Enveloping scheme, red brick-terraced housing (Chapeltown)
Black & White imageDecember 1988. Image shows red brick terraced housing, part of the Granges 'Enveloping' scheme. It involved the external repair and renovation of homes in the area including re-roofing and new windows. At this time the third phase of the enveloping scheme was planned to take place in early 1989. This was to refurbish Grange Avenue (numbers 27-57 and 32-62), Grange View (numbers 32-60), Hamilton Avenue (numbers 1-29 and 2-30), Harehills Avenue (numbers 4-54), and Cowper Street (numbers 28-52 and 27-53).

Black & White imageDecember 1988. View of Hamilton Avenue from the corner with Hamilton Place. Numbers run from left to right, 1 to 29. This street was to become part of the Granges 'enveloping' scheme which was to commence early in 1989. It was the third phase of the scheme and included Grange Avenue (numbers 27 to 57, and 32 to 62.), Grange View (numbers 32 to 60), Harehills Avenue, (numbers 4 to 54, and Cowper Street (numbers 28 to 52 and 27 to 53.) The enveloping scheme was carried out to renovate these old red brick terraced houses externally. They were to be reroofed and fitted with new windows.

Jennings, advertising among others Tetley's Bitter, Walls ice cream and Green Shield Stamps. Terraced housing on Hamilton Avenue is seen on the right. Children are playing in the street; their style of clothing suggest the photo dates from the late 1960s or early 1970s.
