Black & White image1903, Situated at the junction of Marshall Street and Nineveh Road, this library opened on 26th November 1903. The Lord Mayor A Currier Briggs performed the opening ceremony. There were 8,884 books in stock at that time, the number of books borrowed increased to 40,502 in 1903/4, to 86,465 in 1904/5. By the 1960s the population of Holbeck was declining as the old streets were demolished. The library service was transferred to a schoolroom in St Matthews Church, then moved to a temporary home on Holbeck Moor. Finally in 1999 a shop unit was refurbished to provide a new library.
