The first reference to farming at Holt Farm is in 1607 when much of this area was divided up by the monks of Kirkstall. The land of Holt Farm included an area called 'The Brecks' meaning newly cleared Forest lands, which is visible in the background. This area is now also known as Holt Park.

This photo shows the side of the farmhouse, the original building was considerably altered, with doors and windows added in the early 19th century. The roof had originally sloped down as far as the ground floor ceiling on the west side.
