Black & White imageUndated, This library was opened in 9th October 1956 by E Sidney, President of the Library Association. The first librarian was Derek Williamson, who later became Chief Librarian of Leeds. This is the entrance on Middleton Park Avenue. The window on the right was the staff room, a police station was next to it.

Black & White imageUndated. View of Middleton Library situated on Middleton Park Avenue, with adjoining police station to the right. The library was opened in 1956 but both properties were demolished. At the right edge a health centre is visible. The library and police station have since been replaced with a Health Centre with an attached chemist's shop on the site.

Black & White imageUndated, Photograph taken around time of library opening in 1956. This view is of the counter area and entrance. Children's books are on permanent shelving, with all wall painting above them. Moving right, a notice states that librarian Derek Williamson and his staff are there to assist the public. Mr Williamson later became Chief Librarian of Leeds. In the centre of the floor is the catalogue index to books in the library.

This library was designed to be also used as a community centre, the books are all shelved on trolleys or book troughs which could be cleared from the main floor area. The childrens books are on permanent shelving at the end of the library. On the left, the door to boiler house and back entrance.
