Middleton Railway, new road bridge (Hunslet)
Colour image30th November 2005. Image shows the completed road bridge which crosses Middleton Railway to link the John Charles Sports Centre with the new South Leeds High School. The road is in the process of being surfaced. Middleton is a Heritage Railway and is the world's oldest working railway dating from 1758.

Colour image2007/8. Image shows the demolition of old buildings at South Leeds High School, Middleton Road. The school opened as Belle Isle County Secondary School in c1959. It ceased to operate as a school in 2006 when pupils transferred to the new P.F.I. South Leeds School adjacent to South Leeds Stadium. For many years it was known as 'Merlyn Rees'.

Colour image2007/8. View of South Leeds High School in 2006 after demolition had begun. Depending on their era ex pupils will remember it as Belle Isle County Secondary School (from c1959), Belle Isle Middle School (1970s). Merlyn Rees High School (early 1990s) and South Leeds Arts College Merlyn Rees. Finally, in 2004 it became South Leeds High School on amalgamation with Matthew Murray, operating across both campuses. A new South Leeds School opened in 2006 on a site adjacent to South Leeds Stadium.

Colour image2007/8. View from Middleton Road of the former Belle Isle County Secondary School built c1959. After several changes of name and organisation (Belle Isle Middle School, Merlyn Rees, South Leeds Arts College Merlyn Rees) it finally closed in the September of 2006. The final two years as South Leeds High School were the result of an amalgamation with Matthew Murray. Pupils now attend South Leeds School, a new PFI school which opened in 2006.
