View of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Harehills Road. It dates from 1936 and replaced a temporary wooden and iron structure of 1908. The temporary church was built in response to the increase in population of Irish immigrant settlers. Father Patrick Leonard instigated the construction of the larger church seen here and the foundation stone was laid by Doctor Shine, Bishop of Middlesborough in 1935.
