Black & White image1st September 1960 The Tonbridge Hotel, public house situated at the corner of Tonbridge Street (left) and Back Blundell Street. The beer was supplied by Inde Coope and Allsop Brewery. A poster on the wall informs that the Empire Theatre, Leeds has closed for the summer. To the right (not in this view) and opposite the pub was the Leeds Dental School.

Image shows Number 8 Caledonian Road, part of a row of terraced properties at the junction of Caledonian Road and Tonbridge Street, in the process of demolition.Part of the builings were used by Leeds General Infirmary Physiotherapy Unit. Many streets in this area were cleared around this time for the construction of the Inner Ring Road. In the background, at the left hand-side, the B.B.C.'s Broadcasting House is visible, fronting Woodhouse Lane. Behind the partially demolished properties the high-rise blocks of Leeds Polytechnic can be seen, now the Leeds Metropolitan University.
